When you finished install your kali linux, and then you run apt-get update but there's notice "Reading package list... Done". It means that your Kali Linux doesn't have a active repositories'. So, you must reactive your sources.list (remove the # ) or if you consufe just follow this steps:

Regular repositories
1. In standard clean install your kali linux, you should have two entries. Open your sources list nano /etc/apt/sources.list
Add the two list
deb sana main non-free contrib
deb sana/updates main contrib non-free

Source repositories
In case you require source packages, you might also want to add the following repositories as well:
deb-src sana main non-free contrib
deb-src sana/updates main contrib non-free

After finished, just save and run apt-get update. Your kali should be update the list. That's all to Add Kali Linux Repositories.
